Events: KSL Studio Transformation

Recently I had the opportunity to go into the KSL studios with a bunch of other bloggers to check out their new set for the newsroom.  It may not be the kind of designing we're doing in in our homes and landscapes but it was fascinating to see the changes they were making at the studio! The set is enormous and made of up of clusters of different areas that enable them to maximize usage of the space. The set was SO new that there were no shoes allowed so all the bloggers simply enjoyed running about in stocking feet. We tried out the "green screen" and Kevin Eubank gave us … [Read more...]

DIY Projects: FREE Fresh Greens Wreath

DIY Projects: FREE Fresh Greens Wreath

Expenses for the Holiday Season can add up quickly but this Fresh Greens Wreath can decorate your door or table, at a cost of somewhere between cheap and free, and can be made by almost anyone.  Today Kathryn, Lead Horticulturist for Conservation Garden Park, and I put together several wreaths and spent a grand total of zero dollars to do so.  If you have a yard (or a few friends who do), you'll be able to make a Fresh Greens Wreath with clippings taken from your own evergreen shrubs.  Note that I said "shrubs", we don't recommend taking clippings from evergreen trees as they don't recover … [Read more...]

Club Class: Selecting the Best Home Furnishings Summary

Club Class: Selecting the Best Home Furnishings Summary

Last Thursday Andie of RC Willey's "Room to Talk" blog taught a fabulous class about how to shop for home furnishings.  Andie brought not only her own knowledge but also quizzed the RC Willey buyers about the hallmarks of quality and asked them what traits they look for in items to purchase for sale at their stores.  From all of that, she complied a  list of considerations when shopping for home furnishings.  The class was packed full of information not all of which can be reproduced on this post (a great reason to come to the classes in person) but we'll hit the highlights of her top 10 … [Read more...]

Cool Places: RC Willey Home Furnishings

In advance of next week's class on "Selecting the Best Home Furnishings" with Andie of RC Willey, I thought I should check out my closest store as it's been awhile since my last visit.  As you may know, the Club will be hosting Andie of RC Willey's "Room to Talk" Blog next week.  Andie is the face of RC Willey's online education and has grown up in and around the home furnishings industry- it's pretty much in her blood.  Andie's blog has thousands of followers and she frequently posts about trends, new products and (my favorite) GIVEAWAYS - make sure you stop by the "Room To Talk" … [Read more...]

Pinspiration: DIY “Vintage” Air Vent Covers

Pinspiration: DIY “Vintage” Air Vent Covers

I finally found the PERFECT solution for an ongoing issue with a DIY project in my home- an UGLY, beat up cold air return vent that was stuck right in the middle of my new(ish) board-and-batten mouldings! When designing the original project, the height of the base moulding was determined by the height of the cold air return vent which I hoped would help camoflauge that necessary evil but it didn't work.  I had planned to simply replace it with a less-beat-up-but-still-homely new grill but found that the dimensions have changed JUST ENOUGH that the new one wouldn't fit unless I went in … [Read more...]

Member Feature: Colorful Closets!

When we got our first home, I was eager to paint the walls in fabulous, living color! After all, nothing screams "I don't own this place" louder than white walls. Over the years, I've painted and re-painted multiple times in different but coordinating colors through the entire upstairs- every wall except the closets which have been left the original antique white paint color. And now I've come to realize, I'm sort of over it. I love color but perhaps a fewer number of them will make the house "flow" better. Even so, there is something so cheerful about a "pop of color". Perhaps a good "pop" … [Read more...]
