We have some great events and special activities planned for 2013. Join us for fun, inspiration and friendships!  In addition to our three major summer events, we will have some mini-opportunties to participate in local public design projects for club members who are interested in learning while giving a little something back.  Membership in the Club is free for both “in person” and “virtual” members.  Join the Club by filling out the information in the side bar on this website.

Brooke Walker, Studio 5Brooke Walker, Studio 5: Brooke Walker is the co-host of Studio 5, Utah’s #1 local lifestyle program. Brooke will inspire us to   follow our passion while letting go of our fear of “imperfection”.  Have you let worry that you aren’t good enough/ talented enough/ worthy enough stop you from accomplishing things that matter to you?  It’s time to step out of our comfort zones and take a few risks.  Brooke will share with us lessons she’s learned from the thousands of people she’s met through the Studio 5 program and encourage us to be our own best selves.

Joy Bossi Garden Tour with Joy Bossi:  Utah Gardening expert , radio host and author Joy Bossi will lead a tour of Conservation Garden Park. Joy will discuss design, maintenance and plants!  Are there parts of your landscape that just aren’t coming together the way you’ve envisioned?  Not sure how to grow a great vegetable garden? Joy will answer these and many more questions while you stroll the garden to get inspired in your own landscape.  Joy is THE go-to expert for homeowner-friendly advice and she can be heard every Saturday morning on KLO Radio, 103.1 fm.

“Living Arrangements” with Margee Rader: Learn how to create all sorts of living arrangements with plant artist Margee Rader.  Margee will show us how to create unique planting arrangements indoors and out.  Whether it’s an indoor terrarium, succulent topiaries or outdoor garden “junk”, Margee will teach us to create that elusive feeling of whimsy in the landscape.  Margee’s creations have been featured in national publications such at Metropolitan Home and Sunset Magazine.  Her work has also appeared in botanical gardens and high profile venues across the US (and even in Italy!)

 

 Brooke Ulrich“Upcycling” with Brooke Ulrich of “All Things  Thrifty”: Brooke Ulrich with  her Husband/sidekick, Dan, are among the top DIY Bloggers in the country, specializing in upcycling and creating amazing projects on a shoestring budget.  Brooke will teach us how to see the potential in thrift store items and how to revision them for a new purpose in your home.  “Upcycling” is recycling’s classier cousin when done right and Brooke most certainly knows how to do it right! Brooke  appeared on the television show “Craft Wars” and her projects have been featured on HGTV, Studio 5 and Fresh Living.

 

Spencer & Jen“Personalizing Your Space” with Spencer & Jen Allyson Nugent of “The Project Girl” -  Known as Mr. & Mrs. Project after undertaking a massive “designer” renovation on their California Residence, Spencer & Jen Allyson Nugent created a design vision for their home through sketching, digital rendering, and a lot of research. They followed their vision through the actual build process with Spencer on-site daily working on all areas of the renovation including framing, finish work, and cabinet building. They now consider home designing and renovation their shared hobby and are happy to share tips, tricks, and advice on how best to plan – and more importantly – finish your own house projects. They are currently self-designing their future home in Utah which is scheduled to break ground in May.

Social Hour

8:45- 10:00 pm

Terrarium NecklaceHang out and enjoy an hors d’oeuvres table,  music and great company!  We’ll be making our own terrarium pendants/ necklaces to take home while we visit.  You may make a “living” version with little live plants or a preserved version with moss and dried elements.  We’ll have all the supplies- all you need to bring is your imagination.  Don’t think you’re creative? No problem! We’ll have lots of amazing people on hand to help spur your creativity.  We’ll also have live music out on the Garden Plaza if you’d prefer to relax and simply enjoy twilight in the Garden.

 

Prize Drawing

Drawing items have been donated by several generous local sponsors!  Each attendee will recieve 3 FREE tickets to bid on the item of your choice.  Additional tickets can be purchased, if desired, for $1 each.  100% of any funds raised will be used to support activities of the Club.  Tickets will be drawn during the ‘Social Hour’ portion of the evening. Must be present to win. More information about drawing items will be announced as we get closer to the event!

We are combining forces with the great people at Daybreak to provide an exclusive opportunity for Club members and guests to enjoy the latest designs at Daybreak before they’re open to the general public.  Our 1st Annual Design Tour will take place in the NEW model home village at Daybreak which will consist of 5 brand new homes.  Daybreak will host the Club and provide a fun evening of design education from local professionals, socializing and snacks.  More information will be posted as it becomes available.  The event will be free of charge for Club members and guests! We may also have the opportunity to participate in some of the design aspects for one of the model homes.  More details will be posted as they become available. Pre-registration will open in May.

We’re really excited to comence our first annual tour of private gardens along the Wasatch Front!  Here’s your opportunity to amble through some beautiful private gardens while learning about what makes them great from local gardening legend Joy Bossi of “Joy in the Garden”.  We’ll meet at Conservation Garden Park then board our own “fun bus” for the guided tour!  We’ll enjoy lunch in one of the gardens but it is a “bring your own lunch” scenario.  Seating is limited due to the size of both the bus and gardens so make sure to purchase your tickets early! Tickets will go on sale in June.

Rocky Mountain Region Meeting

Tour of Conservation Garden Park

The Rocky Mountain Region of the National Federation of Garden Clubs includes garden enthusiasts from 8 different states and they will be converging on the Salt Lake City Garden scene for their annual conference in September.  The group will tour Conservation Garden Park on Friday, September 18th from 11:00 am until 1:30 pm and the tour will include lunch in our garden.  Any Club members wishing to attend the annual conference can get more information about it HERE.  We’ll also need a few volunteers to help provide a warm welcome to our guests.  Contact the Club staff support to volunteer to help!

2012 Jordan Valley Home & Garden Club Summer Soiree

Mark your calendars for Saturday, June 9, 2012 then plan to join us for a fabulous evening of beauty, inspiration and fun! We’ll kick-off the Jordan Valley Home & Garden Club with a bang!  A $10 cover charge will apply.  Tickets can be purchased via Eventbrite. Seating is limited!  Much of the event will take place outdoors in the Garden.  In the case of inclement weather, classes will be moved inside the Education Center with the exception of the Garden Tour.  The soiree will take place- rain or shine so please come prepared!

Remodelaholics

DIY Design with Justin and Cassity:  Utah natives and married couple, Justin and Cassity are the voices behind Remodelaholic“, a great DIY & design blog with a national following.  Justin is a Landscape Architect and Cassity an Interior Designer, their combined skills lead to some amazing projects!  Justin works for a landscape architecture firm and boasts some pretty sweet carpentry skills.  Cassity has been featured on an HGTV Design Challenge in conjunction with Shaw Floors.  They will discuss creating budget-friendly projects with an emphasis on how to work with your partner to create a shared vision- or at least a cease fire!

Garden Tour with Joy Bossi:  Utah Gardening expert , radio host and author Joy Bossi will lead a tour of Conservation Garden Park.  Furniture Painting with Sausha Khoudet: Sausha is the owner of Sweet Pickins“, a local furniture upcycling business.  Sausha can turn even the homeliest of pieces into unique and interesting furnishings for home and garden. Come and enjoy a hands-on demonstration of how to paint furniture and add budget-friendly style to your own spaces. Learn how to see old stuff in new ways! If you’re not inclined to do the work yourself, no problem, Sausha sells her creations through Sweet Pickins! Sausha’s work has been featured on The Nate Berkus Show!

Hang out and enjoy an hors d’oeuvres table,  live music and great company!  Meet new people who share your interests and enjoy a magical evening in a beautiful garden.  Music will be provided by critically acclaimed singer/songwriter Sarah Sample.  Sarah’s ethereal voice and evocative lyrics are the perfect complement to the lovely garden setting.  Her album “Someday, Someday” was selected as one of the Billboard “Top 100″ Folk albums of 2011.
